Choosing a domain name

Choosing a domain name is very important.

It is well knows in the SEO industry that if you own the domain name for the keywords you are looking to achieve high ranking for, you chances are very high to achieve these results.

For example if you search for the word “art” in Google.com.au you will find that around 50% of the websites ranking top 10 have the word art in them.

From this we can conclude that if we have a shoe store in Sydney, and most of our clients are from Sydney, than we better have the words “shoe”, “store” and “Sydney” in our domain.

This will help Google understand that our website is related to a shoe store in Sydney”.

You must remember that a domain name is only one of over 200 aspects Google is checking when ranking your website, but a good domain name is a good start for your business/blog/forum or what ever you like to put online.

What level domain name you should choose ?? a .com or a .com.au

The answer for that is that they are both the same for Google. Google will try and rank .com.au domains first for searches withing the Google.com.au, BUT if there are websites with better characteristics matching our search, Google will present them first.

The biggest advantage for websites with .com.au domains is that if a user is doing a search but see’s results that are from over seas (.com domains), than there is a good chance the user will choose to show pages from Australia only, and in this case .au domains will get much better ranking than any other domain.
